Instructional Designer/Developer

"My name is Brian Carothers and I work at the Instructional Design Center helping instructors with WebCT and Education and Training initiatives. I am a 2000 graduate of the Master of Arts, Adult Education and Communications Technology, IUP. As I
reflect on my experience in the AECT program, I find relevance and clarity in many things I have learned from the program. And believe the program has helped in my personal and profession development. I recognize the connections I have developed between my coursework and present job duties, and believe reflection and review of notes and coursework reinforce effectiveness and enhance my job performance."

Instructional Technology Specialist

“The Adult Education and Communications Technology (AECT) program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) provided me the knowledge and experience necessary to work in K-12 education as an Instructional Technology Specialist. The faculty and staff at IUP are top-notch in their fields of expertise, and work together to bring the best out of every student. The hands-on experience in technology applications combined with the background theory in adult education practices provides a well-rounded education. This program is great for those interested in industries such as K-12 education, adult basic education, corporate and industrial training, and instructional design and development. Having the opportunity to obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Instructional Technology Specialist Certification after completion of the program is an added bonus. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in succeeding these fields.”

"The AECT program gave me a wonderful opportunity to continue to build upon the vast amount of knowledge I attained in the celebrated undergraduate Communications Media program at IUP. Personally, I consider the most important feature of the AECT program to be the inclusion of many varied forms of advanced, creative technology in the course work. Not only was I taught the skills necessary to use these technologies, but I was encouraged through course objectives to research and independently discover new programs outside of the classroom. I still use these skills on a daily if not hourly basis."

"The AECT program allowed me to focus on and achieve my chosen career path. The program offered the knowledge and tools I needed to be successful in my profession.  The program as truly allowed me many opportunities to utilize the knowledge I have gained and to advance in my career. "
