DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN ADMINISTRATION AND LEADERSHIP STUDIES

School Administrators: Students entering this cohort must have elementary, middle, or high school principal certification. Public school administration candidates who satisfactorily complete the ALS program, along with the first three chapters of their dissertation, may then apply for the Superintendent Letter of Eligibility.

College Faculty and College Administrators: Students entering this program should be college faculty or college administrators. Upon completion of the Administration and Leadership Studies program, candidates will receive a D.Ed. degree in Administration and Leadership Studies.

The ALS program wants to attract potential leaders who can think critically, write well, and speak effectively. In addition, candidates for this program must be able to analyze complex problems and articulate their personal beliefs regarding student learning.

Our intent is to help students develop leadership attributes through extensive reading, analysis of leadership case studies, and application of leadership skills in a field setting. Part of our philosophy includes the belief that leadership skills can be taught. ALS will promote the development of leadership skills by creating an atmosphere of high expectation by requiring students to prepare manuscripts for publication, and by requiring students to organize professional leadership seminars.
