Experience and Interests Dr. Robin F. Rishel has taught classes for the IUP Counseling Department since the spring of 2000. Robin completed her doctoral work at the University of Northern Colorado in Counselor Education and Supervision, with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Counseling. Her dissertation was entitled “An Exploratory study of strength training as a mediator in women’s bodyshape satisfaction”. Prior to joining the faculty at IUP, she had gained experience teaching at the University of Northern Colorado, co-teaching individual and group practicum, counseling theory, and play therapy. The classes she has taught for IUP include Group Procedures for Children, Basic Counseling Skills, Individual Practicum for Adults and Children, and Group Practicum. Dr. Rishel currently teaches classes at both the Indiana campus and at the Monroeville Graduate and Professional Center. She will develop and teach a new elective, “Wellness-based Counseling” in Monroeville in the spring of 2002. Dr. Rishel is a National Certified Counselor, a certified secondary school counselor in Pennsylvania and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado. While working towards her doctoral degree, Dr. Rishel counseled college students at the University of Northern Colorado’s Counseling Center. She also worked at the Division of Professional Psychology’s community counseling clinic. Before moving to Colorado, Robin was employed by Crisis Center North in Pittsburgh where she gained experience counseling with children and adolescents. Dr. Rishel has many research interests and presented at the National Association for Counselor Education and Supervision conference in New Orleans with a colleague from Colorado on “Developing a Rights of Children Workshop”. Along with colleagues, Dr. Rishel also presented at the National Conference of the Association of Specialists in Group Work in Deerfield Beach, FL. They presented two workshops, “The use of sculpting in the supervision of group facilitators” and “Microskills in group work”. Dr. Rishel is currently working with Dr. L’Amoreaux on a presentation for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and is also condensing her dissertation into a journal article. Robin completed
her BA from Denison University and completed her MSEd degree in Community
and School counseling from Duquesne University. She now maintains
a private practice in Pittsburgh and focuses on a Wellness-based approach
to counseling.
