About the Honors Track

The College of Education and Educational Technology Honors Track provides undergraduate education majors additional professional development opportunities through student-centered advanced study and a unique intership experience. Completion of the Honors Track affords future educators in-depth, interactive study of cognitive development in school age learners, learning theory, classroom management techniques, behavior management, and educational assessment issues.

The Honors Track culminates in an individualized internship experience in affiliation with the Child Study Center, the Center for Educational and Program Evaluation, the Center for Rural Gifted Education, or other centers within the College of Education and Educational Technology.

Through the Honors Track curriculum, the student gains a broad theoretical and practical background in the areas of educational psychology and the instructional process.  The program will be useful to students who wish to enter the classroom with advanced understanding of development, learning and instruction, and the application of theory and research in practice.

Participation in the Honors Track will strengthen students’ portfolios and provide them with additional experience and skills for meaningful participation on school-based teams such as Individual Education Teams, Student Assistance Teams, Crisis Management Teams, and Instructional Support Teams.

Honors Track graduates enter the classroom with a strong personal understanding of their own learning and behavior management theories, which will drive their decision-making behaviors in the classroom.

The COE-ET Honors Track is designed as a 13-credit program that includes a one-credit internship.  Students may enter the program prior to taking EDSP 102 Educational Psychology or following completion of this course.

Students who complete the honors section of EDSP 102 take EDSP 477H, two of the 300-level courses, and the honors internship.

Students who complete a nonhonors section of EDSP 102 take EDSP 477H, all of the 300-level courses, and the honors internship.
