What is the purpose of the Child Study Center?
The Child Study Center is a psychoeducational clinic
operated by the School
Psychology Program of the Department of Educational Psychology. The
center is
designed to:
- serve as a training facility for graduate students
in the School Psychology Program
- assist faculty in current research studies
- provide a service to children, families, and
schools
What services can the Child Study Center provide?
The center staff provides:
- educational and psychological assessments of
children aged 4-17 with learning and/or behavioral problems
- consultation to parents concerning educational
remediation and treatment of problem behaviors
- consultation to schools, outside agencies, and
other concerned professional personnel
- short-term treatment of learning and behavior
problems
Who provides Child Study Center services?
The primary role of the Child Study Center is to provide
pre-service practicum
experience and training in psychoeducational assessment and case
consultation
to school psychology graduate students. Under the direct supervision of
educational psychology department faculty, the graduate students
complete
educational and psychological evaluations and case consultations as a
service
to children and parents.
What are the Child Study Center's hours of operation?
The Child Study Center operates during the fall and
spring semesters and a
summer session. The center is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
to:
- accept referrals
- schedule evaluations
- communicate with parents and schools
Clinic evaluations are conducted on:
- alternating Saturday mornings during the fall and
spring semesters
- Monday through Thursday on a half-day schedule during
the summer session
How do you refer a child to the Child Study Center?
Parents should call the Child Study Center at (724)
357-2445 during normal
business hours. Child Study Center administrative assistants will be
available
to accept new referrals. School personnel wishing to make a referral
should
recommend that parents contact the center for an appointment. All
information
is strictly confidential.
What is the Child Study Center fee?
Services are provided for a fee of $75 to cover Center
costs. A fee waiver is
available to eligible families.
Please note that the $75.00 charge for services at the Child
Study Center (CSC) is a nominal fee that covers the basic costs of
operating the center. Evaluation services like those your child
receives at the CSC would cost approximately $300.00-$500.00 in the
private sector. Tax deductible donations are welcomed in order
for the center to continue to provide these services to the
community. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation,
please send a check made payable to the "IUP Child Study Center,"
Department of Educational and School Psychology, 243 Stouffer Hall,
