Admission to the Master's Program
(M.Ed. in Educational Psychology)

Individuals seeking initial admission to any departmental program must complete both a  School of Graduate Studies and Research application and a departmental application. Once all application  materials (including completed application forms, two letters of recommendation, transcripts,  and GRE scores for the aptitude portion of the exam only) have been received, the school  psychology program committee will review applications and select applicants for interviews.

Following these interviews, the committee will forward to the Graduate School and Research  recommendations regarding admission into the program. The Graduate School and Research, in  turn, will communicate an admission decision to the applicant.

Admission to the program is based upon an evaluation of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, recommendations, GRE test scores, work history, professional goals, and personal  characteristics as determined in the admission interview. No one criterion dominates in the  admission decision, providing there is evidence of the basic ability to do graduate work.

Applicants who have cumulative GPAs below 2.6 will be required to take the Miller Analogies  Test by the School of Graduate Studies and Research  as well.

The progress of students entering the master's program is reviewed by the faculty during the first  year of coursework, and a decision is made on whether to invite students to apply to the doctoral  program or support continuation into the specialist certification program. At this point, the  student must complete a streamlined application process in either case.

If you are admitted into our program, here is something to be aware of...

The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires that all those who plan to be certified to work in the public schools have at least six credits in math and six in English (three in composition/writing and three in literature). Most students take these courses during their undergraduate careers. However, if you have not taken any of these courses, you would need to take them before you receive your Pennsylvania certification (approximately three years after enrolling at IUP).
