FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)

1. How do I get my pin number?

You have to know your major and then go to your advisor to receive your PIN number.
2.Who should I see about setting up my class schedule for each semester? 
You should talk to your academic advisor before any definite decisions are made regarding your academic schedule. You can also come to the Academic and Career Assistance Center for guidance in this area. 
3.Where Can I find the name of my advisor?
Contact your department office (ex. Professional Studies in Education for Elementary Ed, or Special Education for Education of Exceptional Persons, Speech Language Pathology, Education of Persons with Hearing Loss, etc.). They will have all information about advisors.
4. What is the Academic and Career Assistance Center? 
The Academic and Career Assistance Center (ACAC) is an office that deals with the specific academic needs of undergraduate education majors. The office works with skill development, time management, study skills, tutoring, preparing for exams, as well as assistance and recommendations for D/F repeats, drop/add, and individual course withdrawal. More information is available from room 105 in Stouffer Hall, or by calling 357-4836. 
5. Who do I speak to about questions regarding Junior Block?
You should contact the Professional Studies in Education Elementary Education Department or your academic advisor. 
6. When should I repeat my D/F classes? 
As soon as possible! The less total credits you have when you repeat D/F courses, the higher your GPA will increase. You need to make sure you file a “D/F Repeat Form” for each course that is repeated.
7. What is the 3-step process to Teacher Certification?
Step 1 - Admission to Teacher CertificationEducation, 
Step 2 - Admission to Student Teaching, 
Step 3 - Recommendations for Certification. A printed handout is available to you in room 104 of Stouffer Hall 
8. When do I apply for Admission to Teacher Certification Education?
When you have 48 credits, an overall 2.8 GPA (calendar year 2002), a recommendation from your advisor, clearance on Act 34 Criminal Record Check, and completion of initial speech and hearing and TB test, and passing scores on the Praxis I Exams. You can pick up the Teacher Certification application in room 104 of Stouffer Hall.
9. How long does it take for Applications for Admission to Teacher Certification Education to be processed?
Applications are reviewed after semester grades are processed.
10. For how long are the Act 34 and 151 Criminal Record Check good?
These record checks are only valid for one year from the date of issue. It is strongly recommended that each Teacher Education Candidate apply for a new set of clearances in May of each year so that the returned clearances will be back and to you and current for one academic year.
12. When should I take the Praxis II tests?
At least one semester prior to student teaching (contact Career Services for additional information at 357-2235.)
13. When can I apply for Student Teaching?
After you have completed passing the Praxis II Exams, obtaining an annual update on your ACT 34 and 151 Clearances, completion of all of your major courses, methods courses, liberal studies science courses with a grade of “C” or higher, completing your electronic portfolio and obtaining your advisor’s positive recommendation and signature.
14. When should I apply for Pennsylvania certification?
You may submit your application for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification no earlier than 6 months prior to completion of all requirements including graduating from the approved program of study, and passing all Praxis exams.  The required "physician’s Statement of Health" and signature must be no more than 6 months old at the time the application is forwarded to the Bureau of Teacher Certification. 15. When do I need to apply for graduation?
At least one semester before you know you're graduating.
16.What are the office hours for the College of Education and Education Technology and the Office of Teacher Education?
Monday through Friday (except holidays)
