Why Should I join NBS?

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF NBS

NBS is a society of an for students supported by dedicated media professionals.  Our main goal is to emhance the development of college and university studetns involved in broadcastin, cable, Internet communications, telecommunications, and other electronic media.  Our other goals include:

  • To promote and recognize excellence
  • To provide opportunities for leadership
  • To provide exposure to the electronic media industrics
  • To assist in career preparation
  • To provide opportunities for the development of members through advanced media education programs at local, district, regional and national levels.


The NBS advisor is Dr. B. Gail WIlson, who specializes in Communications Media.  You can email her at bgwilson@grove.iup.edu.

Membership Opportunities
 

  • To participate in a variety of your local chapters activities.
  • To attend and participate in regional conventions, and in the national convention help annually in a major U.S. city.
  • To enter the national and regional production competitions through which the finest student work in audio, video and scriptwriting is honored.
  • To earn thousands of dollars in scholarships, and recognition awards for academics, community service, media experience and service to NBS-AERho.
  • To receive and contribute to Signals On-Line, your electronically published chapter-initiated newsletter.
  • To join Alpha Epsilon Rho the honor society within the National Broadcasting Society.  Its membership is restricted to the "best of the best" within the membership ranks of NBS.
  • NBS has been partnering with the New York based International Radio and Television Society Foundations for a number of years, which has supported NBS in many ways.  IRTS is establishing a prestigious Fellowship program which brings top students to New York City for an expense-paid nine week experience.  Students receive a comprehensive orientation to the media business, a full-time intership as well as ongoing social activities and career advice.
