Getting Started on your Portfolio

What do I need to know before I start working on my electronic portfolio?
  • You must first download an up-to-date template of your portfolio folder.
  • All templates were revised in summer of 2002 based on INTASC standards.
  •  In order to work on your portfolio, you must have the file open in a web editor such as Microsoft FrontPage or Netscape composer.
  • Microsoft FrontPage and Netscape Composer are available on all IUP computers.
  • If you want to work from home and do not have a web editor, you may download a free copy of Netscape Navigator from http://www.netscape.com. (Composer is a built in aspect of Navigator.)
  • Try to stick with one web editor.  Working back and forth between FrontPage and Composer tends to shift text and fonts around.
  •  Everything that you want to be in your electronic portfolio must be saved in your portfolio folder!  This includes all pictures, documents, and web pages. They all must be saved inside your portfolio folder!!!!
  • Its best to save your pictures as jpg. and gif. files. This format is the most readable and works best when you insert pictures into your portfolio.
  • All links must be linked to items that are already in your portfolio folder. (With the exception of links to web sites).
  • Always remember to continuously save your work.  Also, keep a backup copy of your portfolio on a zip disk or on your hard drive at home.
  • If you have saved your portfolio on the "P" drive, know that it is updated and erased at the end of every semester.
  • The PT3 website has a list of handouts to you help with everything from Inspiration to Web CT.  There are many useful web and graphics tutorials to help you make a very professional looking electronic portfolio .
  • I f you need additional help go to the Portfolio Assistance Center located in 127 Davis Hall, and an assistant will be glad to answer your questions.
  • Now you are ready to download your portfolio template! Go to the link on the left to begin downloading.
