You can zoom in or out by using the Zoom button ('w' to zoom out and 't' to zoom in).
If it is dark, you can use the flash.  Turn this on by pressing the Flash button.
You can also adjust the brightness with the Brightness controls.
The Picture effect button allows you to change the picture style.   There are 5 settings:  color, polarized, negative, black & white, and black & white (olden days)

Put the settings where you want them.  Put the object you want photographed squarely in the LCD screen.  Now you are ready to take the picture.

front_camera.JPG (25739 bytes) Once you are ready to take the picture, press and hold the Shutter button.  The word "recording" should appear on the LCD screen.  This means the camera is loading the picture.
Once the word "recording" is gone from the screen, you may take another picture.
side_camera.JPG (23898 bytes) Before you take your photograph, you may need to focus.  You can either set the focus on Manual or Auto.  Manual allows you to focus while auto automatically focuses.  If you choose auto focus, use the Focus controls to adjust the focus.

Once you are finished taking your pictures, you can see the pictures you have taken.  First, set the camera to Play on the Play/Camera button.  Now scroll through the pictures with the scroll button (round button, located next to Play/Camera button).
Once you are finished viewing your photographs, you are now ready to load your photographs.  First turn the camera off.  Then open the disk hatch with the Disk hatch open button.  Now eject the disk by pressing the Disk Eject.  Use a photo enhancing program (e.g. PhotoShop or Photo Editor) to crop, enhance, etc. your pictures.  It is best to save the image as a .jpg format.
