Video Capture / Input


Purpose: Allows user to record, edit, and playback video

Getting started:

In order to capture video and place it on your electronic portfolio,
you must first record what you want to show on a video tape. 
In order to save space, it is recommended that you keep the video clips to 25 seconds or less.
        Click on Start (located at the bottom left of the screen)
        Choose Programs
        Go into ATI Multimedia
        Choose ATI Player

To view your video, you need to click the Tuner icon. It is the third from the left and looks like a striped TV.

Press Power on the VCR if it is not already on. It may take a moment to warm up
Set the channel to 02
Insert the VHS tape you wish to use
Press Play on the VCR. To stop viewing the video, press Stop on the VCR
To record your video, you need to select the Capture mode. It is the fourth icon from the left and looks like a camera.

Click on the Capture video icon (camera with red dot)

Select "OK" to start video capture*
Click the video capture icon to stop recording

*When recording, leave an excess amount of tape at the beginning and end for easier editing.

      To playback recorded video,
Click the right arrow icon in the lower left hand toolbar.
Click the icon again to stop playback.

To edit recorded video, you need to click the scissors icon in the lower left hand toolbar.

Use the red button to set the beginning of your selection
Click the Begin Edit icon
 To set the end of your selection, click the End Edit icon

*If you want to use the selection as is, you do not need to use these buttons.

To save the video, click the Save As icon.  It's the folder with the hand in it.

Choose the location where you want your file saved to and click save.
compression.jpg (20661 bytes) An options menu will appear.  Click on the options button.
compression2.jpg (26841 bytes) Now, a video compression menu will appear.  In the menu, choose Intel Indeo(R) Video Interactice
Set the quality of the image to 75
Click OK
This compresses the image so it will fit onto your portfolio.
This may take a couple of minutes to complete.

To capture stills from video, you need to be in Capture mode.
Press Play on the VCR.
Click the camera icon to record a still

Recorded stills will appear on a side menu. Each current still will be enlarged, with the previous ones appearing as thumbnails below it

Clicking on the thumbnail stills will bring them up full size

To capture a sequence of stills, you need to be in Capture mode
        Press Play on the VCR
        Click the Capture a sequence of stills icon (videocamera and paper)

This menu will appear. Select "Capture Frame" each time you wish to record a still
When you have finished recording, click "Finished Capturing"
To view the recorded series of stills, you need to be in the Edit mode

Stills appear in the sequence they were recorded. To view each one individually, click the Advance One Frame icon.
